Ross Chastain Wins EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix At Circuit Of The Americas, First Cup Series Win

Ross Chastain and Trackhouse racing have never been to victory lane in the NASCAR Cup Series. After 3 close calls in the last 3 races, all that changed on Sunday at the Circuit Of The Americas when Chastain earned his first win at the EchoPark Automotive Grand Prix.

In an overtime finish, Chastain battled with both AJ Allmendinger and Alex Bowman as all three threw punches to win the fight in the last round. Just when it appeared that Chastain was finished, he muscled up and pushed through Allmedinger and Bowman.

“It’s never tasted sweeter, I gotta tell you,” Chastain said while eating the watermelon he smashed at the finish line. “AJ is so good. I’ve learned so much from him. I had to go beat the guy. He taught me so much.”

After starting on pole, Ryan Blaney lost the lead to Daniel Suárez on the first lap. Suárez would maintain the lead throughout the first stage and earned the stage win. When the field went back to green-flag conditions for Stage 2, Suárez spun in Turn 1 and ended up cutting a tire. Stage 2 winner Denny Hamlin finished 18th after a spin in the closing laps. Suárez finished 24th.
