Kerry Madsen perfect for $6,000 in Attica Ambush opener

ATTICA, Ohio (September 1, 2023) - The “Madman” Kerry Madsen was perfect on Friday night at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, not only opening the annual “Attica Ambush” presented by Janet Holbrook with a $6,000 payday, but leading all 35 circuits in the process, simultaneously securing his first Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1 victory of the 2023 season. Madsen, pilot of the Vermeer Motorsports No. 55 sprint car, is now a 12-time All Star winner over the course of his illustrious open wheel career, leading two-time and defending All Star champion, Tyler Courtney, and recent Bryan Grove Racing hiree, Kyle Reinhardt, to the final checkers.

As noted, Madsen led every lap of Attica’s Ambush opener, securing the lead at the official start over Zeb Wise and Kyle Reinhardt. Despite maintaining a perfect track record from the point, the St Marys, New South Wales, Australia, native did encounter some disturbances, most of which in the form of cautions, as well as a few run-ins with lapped traffic.

While Madsen maintained control, the battle for second was far from subtle with Zeb Wise, Tyler Courtney, and Kyle Reinhardt each throwing their hats in the ring for a podium spot. Seemingly, Reinhardt was the ace to put the most pressure on Madsen, actually showing his nose and working for the lead with just over five remaining. Unfortunately, the Neptune City, New Jersey, native ended his top spot tango on lap 30, nearly spinning to a spot in turn two while battling the Madman.

“It’s stressful being out front…you never know where you need to go or where you need to be,” Kerry Madsen stated. “Just hats off to this entire team. To win at Attica, you have to have a really good race car, and that’s what we had here tonight. Happy to get it done for everyone at Vermeer Motorsports. A tip of the hat to all of our progress. Fast cars win races.”
